Essen, 24 March 2025. In just over two weeks, the hour will have come. TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN invites the sector to the Classic World Show. This will be the 35th time that the exhibition throws open its gates for professional visitors and fans alike since the first show in 1989. The internationally renowned motor show for vintage motor cars, classic cars and prestige automobiles holds out the promise of five exciting days, packed with innumerable exquisite highlights and some really exceptional exhibits.
The show organiser S.I.H.A. expects exhibitors and visitors from more than 30 countries to make the journey to Essen. At the beginning of April, the crème de la crème of international dealers in classic cars will temporarily transform TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN into the world’s largest and most diverse automobile salon. Some dealers will bring as many as three dozen vehicles from their portfolio – a huge logistical challenge.
A total of more than 2,700 vintage motor cars, classic cars and prestige automobiles will be presented at the show in eight halls, the Galleria, and the open-air showground, providing exhibition space of more than 120,000 square metres – this is equivalent to the area of approximately 17 football pitches. The portfolio and the diversity are rated not least by experts as absolutely beyond compare.
This year, the show organiser S.I.H.A. is presenting a special showcase exhibition entitled Inspiring Greatness … 20th Century Automobiles, Craftsmanship and Innovation. Eight classic cars are being exhibited at the centre of Hall 5 around the iconic S.I.H.A. Pavilion. They represent one of the most impressive eras of automobile construction – this innovative phase of pioneering creativity started around 100 years ago. Alongside two Bugattis, this special show presents exquisite exhibits including an Invicta 4.5 Litre High Chassis Le Mans, a rare Maserati 26M, a Riley 1 ½ Litre TT Sprite works racing car, and an outstandingly well-preserved BMW 328.
In addition, TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN is celebrating landmark anniversaries of important models and model series. These include 70 Years of Citroën DS, that legendary saloon which answered to the soubriquet of Goddess and celebrated its Paris premiere in 1955. Friends and collectors have come up with the format of the Citroën Road to present the marque. They are celebrating the anniversary with a replica construction of the rotunda display area used at the original premiere back in the day.
DEUVET (German Oldtimer-Youngtimer Association) is staging a special exhibition to pay tribute to the Transporter of the German Economic Miracle. This type of vehicle is more important than ever today and became established around 70 years ago. These workhorses set the pace for economic recovery in Germany after the end of the Second World War.
A number of exhibitors are putting the popular sports-car marque Porsche centre stage by presenting some extraordinary exhibits. For the first time, Robert Bröcker – regarded as a renowned expert worldwide in the Pre-A Phase of the Porsche 356 – is showing 14 vehicles from his collection. These pearls include an extremely rare Gmünd Coupé wearing an aluminium body from the year 1949. The Dutch collector is also bringing to Essen the Speedster that was once piloted by US crooner Roy Orbison. The platform RARE.SPHERE is cooperating with restoration specialist EARLY 911 S to celebrate the stylish interior upholstery fabric Pepita with the project Porsche 911 S 60 Years of Pepita. This unique classic fabric pattern adorned a Porsche 911 for the first time in 1965 – exactly 60 years ago.
The shock-absorber specialist BILSTEIN is celebrating the golden era of motor sport with a faithful reconstruction of a Porsche 911 SC Group 4. Rally legend Walter Röhrl enjoyed a successful career driving the original of this vehicle. Röhrl will be a guest at TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN on 12 April 2025. A true sui generis will also be on show to attract admiration. In 1969, Pininfarina was commissioned by Porsche to manufacture an extended four-seater based on the Porsche 911. The Swedish dealer Auto Classica is bringing this one of a kind to Essen. Younger but no less impressive is the Porsche 935 built in 2019 cloaked in a Martini look. Hans Hotfiel brings number 18 out of only 77 Porsche 935 cars ever manufactured to TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN.
Hall 1 will once again be the most important location at the 35th TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN for friends of the marque with the star – Mercedes-Benz. 19 official marque clubs are presenting around 40 carefully curated vehicles in this forum and showcasing a brand-new Engineering Corner where experts will use cutaway models and special constructions to present and explain some of the exciting technical developments over some 100 years. Major dealers will be presenting vehicles in Hall 1. These include ROSIER Classic Sterne showcasing a Mercedes-AMG One, and 300 SL specialist HK Engineering. Axel Schuette Fine Cars is displaying an outstanding Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, a late model equipped with disc brakes and exceptionally well-storied documentation.
Naturally, the legendary Italian marques like Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Lamborghini will also be in the limelight. They are all showcased with some fabulous models. Auto Sportiva is bringing a number of classic cars including an eccentric duo comprising a Lamborghini LP 5000 S Quattrovalvole and the brutalist LM002 off-road vehicle, both liveried in pristine white. Swedish dealer Motikon is showing Ferrari Testarossa sports cars in perfect condition. This is an aspiration also espoused by official Ferrari dealer Eberlein from Kassel. He is showing a recently meticulously restored Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet finished in a rare colour shade and provided with a displayed certificate of authenticity.
These highlighted exemplars provide no more than a glimpse of the incredible diversity that has defined TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN since 1989. It is regarded as a worldwide pioneer and template for all classic-car shows and established new standards for size, diversity and offerings. Today, it is a must-go-to date for every classic-car professional and fan.
More than 200 Clubs guarantee that TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN reflects the entire spectrum of the dedicated scene with their sophisticated and imaginative exhibition concepts. Newcomers and budding enthusiasts will discover innumerable opportunities in Essen to find out more about this exciting and diverse hobby, which many have developed into a profession with excellent prospects. Numerous exhibitors at TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN offer a fruitful point of contact and source of information for anybody interested in a future-proof specialist training in the classic-car sector.
In accordance with what has become a grand tradition, TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN will once again be holding a Concours d’Élégance in 2025. Great names – and as always exotic contestants – in all FIVA classes once again promise an exciting competition. The most elegant vehicle will receive the much-coveted Best of Show Trophy at the gala presentation on Friday 11 April 2025. A prestigious award will also be conferred on the most authentically preserved original classic car.
The World Club Grand Prix held by TECHNO-CLASSICA ESSEN every year is also exceptionally popular. A dedicated independent jury awards this prize to salute the most exciting and unusual club stand. Every year, clubs, special-interest groups and associations compete with commitment and dedication to win this award, which enjoys huge prestige in the sector.
